On January 15th at 9:40 A.M, The General Student Council held a protest against the raise of tuition fee in front of the Main Hall. The GSC opposed to the decision made in the first and second Tuition Fee Review Commission which was on January 7th and 12th. The school clarified the plan to increase 1.7 percent of the tuition in the previous commissions.

Park Mun-soo, the chairman of the General Representative Council, said, “Universities across the country are maintaining or lowering tuitions. The raising of tuition fee is anachronistic,” and added, “If the decision to increase the tuition fee is confirmed, students in Dongguk cannot get the type two of the state scholarship because the Ministry of Education declared that they will not support the type two state scholarship if universities increase its tuition fee.”

An Dre, the chairperson of the GSC, said, “The school maintained that increasing tuition fee is inevitable due to its debt. However, we believe that it is improper to shift the school’s burden to students.”

On the same day, the third Tuition Fee Review Commission has started at 10:00 A.M. Jo Seung-woo, the vice chairperson of the GSC said, “The GSC and student members of the commission will continue to strive for lowering tuition fees.” The fourth commission is scheduled on January 19th at 3:00 P.M.
