On December 18th at 2:00 P.M, a press conference regarding the explanation for the statement issued by the Student Councils of the College of Economics & Commerce, College of Engineering, and the College of Law on December 17th was opened. Chairperson Choi of SCP and Vice Chairperson Kim of GSC declared that their actions were not a mere performance, which was the main argument of the statement by the Student Councils.
The statement contended that the forwarning of jumping to the death by Choi Jang-hoon, the chairperson of the Student Council of Postgraduate, was a political performance of the GSC. It said that the chairperson Choi had not ever determined himself to jump to death. It added by saying that the GSC had deceived Donggukians, as Chairperson Choi was in contact with the members of the GSC, unlike the GSC’s announcement on that day which explained that Chairperson Choi was not in contact.
During the conference, Chairperson Choi noted that“The situation was an inevitable for me to announce that I will jump to death in the official press release.” He added, “I was going to go to the board of directors at the first time. However, I thought that I would not be able to jump to the death if I go to the board of directors, I decided to disappear. Then, I contacted An Dre, the 48th chairperson of the GSC, and told him that I would turn off my phone in order to prevent a location tracing by the police, and asked An Dre to notify the situation of the board of directors as I will turn on the phone in every 30 minutes or an hour.”
An Dre, the 48th chairperson of the GSC, said, “What I lied is that I told the GSC members that they do not have to worry since I was in contact with Chairperson Choi and the Surveillance team is activated. However, actually, there was no surveillance team and the location of chairperson of Choi was unknown.” He added by saying “I apologize for all your concerns or any feelings of discomfort. However, I feel like the whole effort that we put throughout the year is being objected.”
Kim Geon-jung, the vice president of the GSC, said, “Maybe I should have died.” Also, he said that now is the time for students to cooperate, and that students should avoid such conflict.
