Reading-Discussion Clubs with Mentors
The Central Library organized a debating program called “Reading-Discussion Clubs with Mentors.” In this program, several students make a team with one professor and debate based on assigned books. Currently, four professors and about four students per professor, a total of 16 students, joined the program. Each team has a debate once a month. Those teams choose wide genre of books, such as The Story of Art by E. H. Gombrich,  The Life by Yu Hua and Finding Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. The Central Library has run this program since 2013. It is intended to offer students debating experiences and to let them achieve the professional knowledge with professors. This program is managed by professors’ talent donation and the support fund for books from Kyobo Bookstore. It is run by every semester, and there is no plan to recruit students as new members in those debating clubs yet. However, when some of the existing member quit the club, there will be a notice.  Reading-discussion club activities will be included as the examination standard when Booksammae, the reading portal site of the Central Library, selects superior users of Booksammae yearly. The Central Library selected an outstanding club and gave some prizes last year. Choi Kyung-jin, the manager of Academic Information Service Team in the Central Library said, “Reading-discussion club activities which run with professors will help students to achieve the knowledge and it may help them in terms of school classes.”
