Dongguk University has been selected as a partner of regional traditional market under a program begun by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA). The SMBA announced the final 22 universities chosen out of 69 applicants nationwide for its Traditional Market and University Cooperation Business. This project aims to promote the profits of local traditional markets as well as the region’s economy in association with schools nearby. The school, in fact, was involved in a similar project with Seongnam Dandae Traditional Market for six months previously. Starting from this August, the university is in a new alliance with Tongin Market, located in Jongno-gu, next to Gyeong-bok Palace.
A seminar which gathered the 22 schools selected from all around the country took place on August 10th in Dongguk University’s Wonheung Hall. Members of the university’s LINC Agency, the Korea Association of University for Research Institute and Industry (AURI), the SMBA, and professors from other schools attended. Professor Jeon Byung-hoon, who is in charge of the Youth Enterprise Center here in Dongguk University, delivered a presentation about the successful case of the school’s partnership with Seongnam Dandae Traditional Market, located in Gyeongi-do. With the support of Small Enterprise and Market Service and Shinsegae Department Store, the school operated a Capstone Design Project, which involved the participation of Donggukians majoring in engineering as well as film and digital media design.
Based on the knowledge obtained from six months of experience last year, Professor Jeon confidently said, “LINC Agency will put its best efforts in increasing the number of customers and profits in Tongin Market by developing specialized merchandise based on innovative ideas from students, and enhancing the market’s image among the consumers.” The project is indeed an important gateway into the society for students who are planning to graduate soon. Moreover, it is a learning site for students to serve the community as a member of society.
