The Office of Strategic Planning will expand the number of professor who can benefit from a performance-related payment system. Until last year, only associate professors and assistant professors were eligible for performance-related payment. Starting from this year, the system will be applied to full time professors and all faculty members in the school. It is intended to boost all professors and faculty members’ morale to work harder. Professors will be judged by their publications, research, and lecture evaluations that students conduct every semester. Faculty, on the other hand, will be evaluated by performance evaluation system that was introduced in 2007, which uses the MBO (Management By Objectives) method. The MBO method focuses on goal setting and how much of it is accomplished. Faculty members are evaluated individually as well as by departments. However, there might be a few differences among departments. To make up for such gap, capability evaluation is also included in the system. The evaluation is accumulated by year so the difference of payment between the good performers and bad performers will become larger as time goes by. Also, the Office of Strategic Planning is considering whether to add other evaluation indicators to judge all professors and faculty members fairly.
