College of Buddhist Studies Hold a Proclamation Ceremony
A ¡°Vision 2020 Proclamation Ceremony¡± was held on November 26th by the College of Buddhist Studies. At Ambassador Hotel, where the ceremony was held, they announced the plan to build a Dongguk Buddhist Center . Many alumni attended the ceremony and the President of Dongguk University, Kim Hee-ok delivered a word of encouragement, which honored the evening. Myung-sin Sunim (member of school board), Kim Gil-tae (CEO of Alumni Association) and 500 other people attended the ceremony. The ceremony was held to collect donation for building the center and a total of one billion was given by multiple people, including Jung-ryun Sunim, the Chairman of the Board of Dongguk University. He donated one hundred million won, which was the second largest amount donated by a single person. The biggest donation was made by Hak-myung Sunim, the amount being two hundred million won. The ¡°Vision 2020¡±includes a plan to make Dongguk Buddhist Center a pivot of Buddhist studies and globalizing the Korean Buddhism through the center. In order to carry out the plan, the College of Buddhist Studies will hold international symposiums, extend relation of exchange with Buddhist universities abroad and publish English journal of Buddhism. At the end of the evening, an appreciation plaque was given to Hak-myung Sunim, the largest donator and Bubta-Sunim, who donated one hundred million won.
