Coffee and Your Health

Are you a coffee drinker? How many cups have you had today ? two, three, or six? A true coffeeholic would not know how to start a day without the usual strong cup of black. According to recent news reports, Korea is rapidly becoming a coffee-loving nation. There is also a rise in the number of coffee shops in Korea to meet the growing demand for coffee. However, the high level of coffee consumption is worrying some people, who believe that coffee is bad for people because it makes our hearts race and our hands tremble. It stains our teeth, makes us irritable and keeps us awake at night. Nonetheless, researchers have shown that coffee is not just a great drink; in fact, it does indeed have several health benefits such as mental stimulation, pain relief, and weight loss.

One important effect of drinking coffee is the mildly stimulating effect that gets us going for the day. This stimulating effect occurs because of the primary active ingredient in coffee, caffeine, which is the bitter substance found in the beans of the coffee plant. A cup of coffee contains about 90 to 150 mg of caffeine. It stimulates the central nervous system and then increases intellectual activity when you are fatigued or bored. It also enables you to keep active for longer than normal. According to the Mayo Clinic, two to four cups of coffee a day is fine for many people, but more than that can cause insomnia and nervousness.

Drinking coffee also makes it possible to relieve body pains and make you healthy. Caffeine is an ingredient found in many medicines used to relieve headaches and menstrual symptoms. According to the Journal of Pain, two cups of coffee can cut post-workout muscle pain by up to 48 percent. In addition, chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant that is especially prevalent in coffee. This substance may be responsible for some of the beneficial effects of coffee. Recent research has shown that coffee may help prevent the onset of Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes, and colorectal cancer. For example, researchers discovered that those who consumed six or more cups per day had a 22 percent lower risk of diabetes.

Finally, regular coffee consumption helps you lose weight. Since caffeine can instigate the muscle to start using fat as energy, coffee can accelerate fat loss. The researchers found that one cup of coffee could help you burn more fat during your workout. Moreover, caffeine can enhance performance in endurance sports. Therefore, caffeine has been used by many endurance athletes as a way of getting extra energy out of their body reserves during an event and doing much better than previously. Caffeine is also found in some non-prescription diet drugs, because it is an appetite suppressant.

To summarize, coffee can increase mental awareness, boost concentration, relieve body pains, and make you healthy. Coffee has also been linked with losing weight. According to researchers, especially, 20s to 30s drink coffee a lot. If you keep your coffee consumption moderate, you can get all of the benefits with none of the side effects. Go ahead and start your day with a hot cup of fresh coffee!
