Dongguk University will found the nation’s first Police Graduate School next year. It will train a highly skilled group in the areas of manpower, criminal policy, criminology, criminal psychology, and penology. A graduate of the School of Public Administration said that the Police Graduate School proposal was accepted and the College will be opened in March of next year.
For the first time in Korea the school will establish the combined characteristics for students who handle criminology and criminal policy. Several domestic graduate schools offer a single Bachelors and Doctoral course that deals with theory centered criminology and re-education purpose.
Dongguk will select the first thirty freshmen through the application process from the 22nd to 29th of November this year. Recruiting targets are active-duty police officers, staff of the National Intelligence Service, executives of calibration organizations, and staff of major companies related with industrial technology security, etc.
The Police Graduate School set up majors of police science, criminology, criminal psychology, national intelligence science, industrial security, penology, probation, etc. Common majors are police science, criminology, and a study on the methodological approach to criminal justice. Main majors consist of 15 detailed curriculums.
The school will offer Bachelors degrees in police science, criminology, and security administration if a student finishes five semesters of the Bachelors course. Faculty members include professor of police administration Lee Hwang Woo, an expert of criminal psychology Lee Yoon Ho, Choi Ung Ryeol, Lim Jun Tae, Gwak Dae Kyung, and Jo Yoon Oh.
